Combination Power Generation and Thermal Desalination Solutions for Sea and Brackish Water

Finally, a total electric, pollution free desalinization plant.  The process can use either sea water or brackish water with the only emission being pure, drinkable distilled water.  The thermal desalination process uses electricity to power induction coils that evaporate water and subsequently condense it again. When there is sufficient electricity available, as is the case with Power Plants of 2 MW or more (JB-2M or higher), thermal desalination is an efficient and viable solution.

The induction coil temperature thermal distillation units are capable of producing both drinking and boiler feed water from seawater or brackish water. They are available in two versions differentiated by the method used for the supply of energy:

Multi-Effect Distillation (MED), a thermal steam process incorporated in the Power Plants.

CapEx for Thermal Desalination of Sea and Brackish Water

The additional cost for a 6 MW Power Plant producing 162,000 gallons per day (614 m3), for example, is $900,000 USD.  This price does not include the cost to build the feeder line that will deliver the sea or brackish water as feed stock for the plant.  Operating costs are the same for the operation of the power plant plus any cost or expense to dispose of the solid waste.

Thermal Desalination – Multi-Effect-Distillation (MED) Solutions for Seawater

With capacities ranging from 200 m3/day per unit from every 2 MW Power Plant, the MED units produce a reliable, low-cost stream of high purity water for power plants and industries that can provide low-grade steam as an energy source.  MED solutions are customized for the needs of each customer, including the site-specific characteristics of seawater or brackish water inputs.

The World’s Most Advanced Thermal Desalination Technology

The MED approach utilizes the advanced induction technologies and know-how developed to achieve exceptional thermal efficiency and reliability. Its underlying concept is a multi-effect process in which a spray of seawater is repeatedly evaporated and then condensed, with each effect at a lower temperature and pressure. This highly efficient process multiplies the quantity of pure water that can be produced using a given quantity of energy, resulting in a significant reduction in cost.

Our MED Plants deliver continuous, safe and reliable operation with lower operation and maintenance costs.  This Eco-friendly solution is built to last providing a vital resource while minimizing the impact on the environment.
